When switching to a natural deodorant, you may find that you experience a bit more sweating and body odour than you're used to. This is completely normal - read on to find why this happens!
First, it must be said that not everyone experiences the transition in the same way or for the same amount of time. The reason for the strange smell you may experience is down to the changing environment of the bacteria under your arms. This environment is changing because your underarms, which have been used to ingredients that block your pores from antiperspirants, are now exposed to ingredients that allow you to sweat. This causes an increases in growth of odour-causing bacteria and also possibly additional moisture because your body is trying to flush out the toxins. However, it's important to remember that this odour-causing bacteria won’t last forever - it is just a part of the detox that happens when you discontinue use.
After about 2 weeks, you should find that bacteria levels begin to reduce and the smell subside, as well as moisture levels and things can seem back to normal. Natural fibres like cotton, bamboo and linen will allow the area to breathe and can help you during this period! After four weeks, your body should be fully transitioned.
