The refill is not currently recyclable, but what you can do is simply pop it in your general waste and it will break down within a 1 - 2 years (not decades!) with no detrimental environmental impact, as there will be no nasty chemicals to leach out. It’s just bamboo and plant starches which have come from agricultural waste!
The bamboo refill is created from plants using renewable, lower carbon, agricultural waste materials, and these sustainability benefits still apply no matter what happens to them after use. Unlike plastic, the bamboo fibres used in the refill will decompose within a couple of years and will not release any nasty chemicals that damage the environment.
Most often, plastic can only be recycled one or two times, often into something that is unable to hold perishable or heavy items, and with this in mind, we wanted to create a plastic free alternative, that is not only better for the environment, but can also biodegrade in the home compost or safely in landfill just like a banana peel.
This is a much needed step in creating packaging that isn’t going to stick around on our planet for years to come.
